Arunachal Governor Reviews Law and Order, Orders Investigation into NERIST Incident

Itanagar, June 25: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General K.T. Parnaik (Retired) held a detailed discussion on the current law and order situation in the state with Home Minister Mama Natung on Wednesday. The focus was particularly on recent events at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST).

An official from the Raj Bhavan reported that the Home Minister met with the Governor to review law and order in Arunachal Pradesh and to discuss the recent incident at NERIST, located near Itanagar in Nirjuli.

Expressing deep concern over the unfortunate incident, the Governor emphasized that NERIST is one of the leading technical and higher education institutions in the Northeast. The incident has raised serious concerns about the institute’s functioning and environment.

He stressed that educational institutions should be safe and conducive to learning. Furthermore, he highlighted the responsibility of all stakeholders to uphold the sanctity, dignity, and reputation of educational institutions across the state.

In expressing his dismay over the incident, Lieutenant General Parnaik called for a fair investigation into allegations of intimidation and coercion against the director of NERIST by certain groups.

He remarked that such incidents set a poor example for the youth and should be addressed appropriately under the law.

Emphasizing the importance of better functioning and administration of the institution, he stated that the management and administration of educational institutions should be based on principles of merit, integrity, dignity, discipline, transparency, and accountability.

He further asserted that any actions that undermine the functioning, credibility, or harmony of educational institutions should be dealt with strictly and in accordance with the law, to maintain public trust in the state’s educational system.

The Home Minister assured the Governor that the state government is taking this matter very seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation. He stated that appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty after the investigation is completed.
