Tensions Rise at Jamia Millia Islamia Following Free Kashmir Slogans

Tensions escalated at Jamia Millia Islamia as Congress MP Imran Masood was detained amid protests for student union elections.

New Delhi, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : Tensions escalated at Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi on October 23, following reports of slogans related to “Free Kashmir” being written on campus. In response, a significant police presence was deployed outside the university to maintain law and order and prevent any potential unrest.

Congress MP Imran Masood was taken into custody by Delhi police while attempting to join a protest organized by students demanding the reinstatement of student union elections. Masood expressed his support for the students, asserting that their demands are entirely justified. He questioned why the student union had not yet been restored.

“Students are the future of this country. Why attempt to crush the future of the nation? Why is the student union not being revived?” he asked.

Masood clarified that he does not support any anti-India slogans. “We will not support those who talk about breaking India. Kashmir is an integral part of India and always will be. These posters and slogans are being used to divert the entire movement,” he stated.

He further emphasized that there is an ongoing effort to suppress the rights of students. Masood alleged that students have been expelled from the university and that the student union has not been reinstated.

“I would give my life for my children. These students are my children and the future of my country. Their rights are being suppressed. What is the reason for not reinstating the student union?” he questioned.

Currently, police presence has been increased in and around the university as students continue to protest for the restoration of the student union, while law enforcement monitors the situation closely.
