Saharanpur, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : An archaeological team is examining a well discovered at a demolished mosque in Saharanpur, indicating it may date back to the medieval period. Manoj Yadav, an assistant archaeological officer, provided insights into the structure and its significance during a recent inspection.
Yadav clarified that the investigation is conducted under the directives of the Uttar Pradesh State Archaeological Department, not the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). He noted that the structure appears to resemble a well and is likely linked to the medieval era, as it features Lahori bricks and binder materials like surkhi and lime.
The team has come to assess the well’s age and characteristics. According to Yadav, the well is approximately 20 feet deep, with a diameter of three feet. The brick dimensions are 20x10x5 centimeters. Based on historical context, this structure is estimated to date back around 200 to 250 years.
Yadav explained that the construction style suggests it belongs to the post-medieval period, which was prevalent during that time. He mentioned that the revenue department could provide information on when the well was last in use.
He emphasized that immediate action is not required but that a thorough investigation is necessary. The findings will be discussed with senior officials, historians, and archaeologists to compile a comprehensive report for the administration.
