A user claims their smartwatch overheated unexpectedly while worn, resulting in a painful burn that has since developed into a permanent scar resembling the watch’s back. The individual also alleges that Apple’s support system has taken months without providing a clear resolution.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 24, 2025, while the user was working at their laptop in the afternoon. They experienced an intense surge of heat precisely where the watch was in contact with their skin.
The user quickly removed the device, but the damage was already done. Images shared with the report reveal a distinct mark matching the shape of the Apple Watch’s rear sensor area, accompanied by blisters and redness. Months later, the mark remains visible, leaving what the user describes as a permanent scar.
Apple Support Process Prolonged
The individual reached out to Apple support on the same day, providing images of both the injury and the device. According to their account, initial responses from support suggested a possible skin reaction rather than a heat-related issue. However, the user maintains that the sensation was clearly due to extreme heat.
Apple support later recommended sending the watch to one of their facilities in Ireland for further examination, possibly to investigate a battery-related fault. While Apple reportedly agreed to arrange a device pickup, the user claims that collection never occurred. Efforts to escalate the matter have also faced challenges, including a scheduled Genius Bar appointment that the local Apple Store allegedly had no record of.
