New Delhi, March 30: Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur launched a sharp attack on the Congress party during a Lok Sabha session on Monday. He accused the party of rolling out the red carpet for Maoists and strengthening the red corridor during its tenure.
Thakur stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government has significantly reduced Maoism in India. He noted that the number of districts affected by Maoist activities has decreased from 126 to less than two.
He emphasized, “Today, we are neutralizing the Maoists, and many are surrendering. We have made it clear: surrender and join the mainstream, and we will grant amnesty. However, if they do not comply, we will take strict action.” Thakur reiterated the government’s commitment to creating a Maoism-free India.
He paid tribute to the 1,851 security personnel who lost their lives in the fight against Maoism, highlighting that over 7,000 civilians have also died due to Maoist violence.
Thakur accused the Congress government in Chhattisgarh, particularly under the leadership of Bhupesh Baghel, of failing to cooperate with the central government, despite several Congress leaders being killed in Maoist attacks.
He pointed out that this issue has persisted since Indira Gandhi’s era, yet the Congress has failed to provide a solution. He stressed that the Modi government has found a resolution and demonstrated its determination to eradicate the problem.
Thakur highlighted the government’s “dual strategy” of security and development. He mentioned the establishment of schools, increased mobile connectivity, and infrastructure development in tribal areas.
Rejecting allegations of discrimination, he stated that the government has worked for 250 million poor citizens without bias based on religion or caste.
Thakur’s remarks came during a Lok Sabha discussion on internal security and left-wing extremism, which showcased the government’s success in reducing Maoism through military action and development initiatives.
