Amaravati, June 4: The ruling NDA in Andhra Pradesh has finalized the distribution of seats for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. A crucial meeting chaired by Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president N. Chandrababu Naidu decided that the TDP will contest three Rajya Sabha seats, while one seat will be allocated to its ally, the Jana Sena Party.
The meeting lasted over two hours and included Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan, BJP state president PVN Madhav, Jana Sena leader and minister N. Manohar, and TDP state president Palla Srinivas among several senior leaders. Discussions also covered strategies to communicate the achievements of the central and state governments over the past two years, along with other political issues.
Elections for the four Rajya Sabha seats are scheduled for June 18. Given the NDA’s significant majority in the assembly, winning all four seats is considered almost certain. The names of the candidates are expected to be announced in the coming days. This election presents a unique opportunity for the Jana Sena, as it will mark the party’s first representation in the Rajya Sabha.
The deadline for filing nominations is June 8, with voting set for June 18 if necessary. The current terms of four Rajya Sabha members from Andhra Pradesh, including YSR Congress Party’s Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, Parimal Nathwani, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, and TDP’s Sanna Satish Babu, will end on June 21.
In the 175-member assembly, the TDP holds 135 seats, while its ally Jana Sena has 21 and the BJP has 8. In contrast, the YSR Congress has only 11 seats. Thus, the likelihood of the NDA winning all four seats uncontested appears strong.
