Amaravati, March 28: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu presented a significant proposal in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Saturday. He urged the central government to grant legal recognition to Amaravati as the official capital of the state.
This assembly session was specifically convened to discuss and pass the proposal demanding legal status for Amaravati as the capital. This move is seen as a crucial step towards bringing clarity and stability to the capital city issue.
In his address, Chief Minister Naidu emphasized that legal certainty regarding the capital could be achieved through appropriate amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act of 2014. Accordingly, the assembly resolved to request the Government of India to amend Section 5 of the Act. This amendment would involve adding the phrase “in Amaravati” in subsection (2) and expanding the clarification to ensure that the areas included are those notified under the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority Act of 2014.
During his speech, the Chief Minister urged all members of the house to discuss the proposal and extend their full support.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh’s Revenue Minister Satyaprasad Anagani took to the social media platform X, stating, “Chief Minister Chandrababu has presented a historic proposal demanding recognition of Amaravati as the permanent capital.” He reiterated that the proposal seeks legal acknowledgment for Amaravati as the capital city from the central government.
The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet had approved the proposal related to Amaravati earlier on Thursday. Chief Minister Naidu had previously requested the central government to provide legal recognition for Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
