Patna, June 15: The Special MP-MLA Court in Gopalganj granted anticipatory bail to Anant Singh and Bhojpuri singer Gunjun Singh on Monday. This high-profile case involves allegations of brandishing weapons and singing obscene songs during a public event in Bihar.
The incident is linked to a “Janeu” ceremony held on May 2 in Semraw village, under the jurisdiction of the Mirganj police station. A video from the event went viral on social media, sparking controversy as it allegedly showed weapons being displayed openly and inappropriate songs being played during the ceremony.
Following the video’s circulation, the police registered an FIR against several individuals, including Anant Singh and Gunjun Singh. The Special MP-MLA Court, presided over by ADJ-3 in Gopalganj, heard the anticipatory bail petitions.
After considering arguments from both the prosecution and defense, the court granted relief to all named accused. Defense attorney Kumar Harshvardhan Pathak argued that the viral video appeared edited and suspicious. He further stated that investigators had not presented any forensic science laboratory (FSL) report or recovered any weapons allegedly used in the incident.
According to the defense, the FIR was filed without sufficient evidence, primarily based on an unverified clip circulating on social media. The court’s decision provides significant legal relief to both Anant Singh and Gunjun Singh, while the investigation continues.
Authorities have already transferred the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further inquiry. All eyes are now on the CID’s investigation and the forensic examination of the viral video and associated allegations.
Anant Kumar Singh is a legislator from the Mokama assembly constituency in Patna. He faces charges of murder and criminal conspiracy related to the Dularchand Yadav murder case ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections in 2025. He was previously incarcerated and is currently out on bail in that case.
