New Delhi, June 7: Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is set to enhance its border and internal security with a significant milestone. On June 9, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the Land Port Management System (LPMS) in New Delhi.
The LPMS is a state-of-the-art digital platform designed to integrate operations at land ports into a unified system. It facilitates the secure, real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information, aligning land ports with the digital systems currently in place at airports and seaports.
An official statement highlighted that this initiative reflects the commitment of the central government, led by Prime Minister Modi, to improve efficiency, transparency, and security in cross-border trade and passenger movement through smart border management and technology-driven solutions.
During the event, Amit Shah will also inaugurate newly developed stakeholder accommodation facilities at the Dawki (Meghalaya) and Srimantpur (Tripura) land ports. This infrastructure support will strengthen the capabilities of border security personnel and other key stakeholders.
The launch of the LPMS marks a significant step in India’s journey towards a modern, technology-driven smart border management system. It aims to facilitate trade, enhance connectivity, and bolster national security, aligning with the country’s strategic focus on becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Furthermore, the LPMS will serve as a neutral and open platform, simplifying coordination among various stakeholders, including government agencies and private operators. This will reduce delays and enhance operational efficiency.
The system offers an end-to-end digital workflow for cargo and passenger processing, including slot booking, payment, tracking, and single-window clearance.
Fully integrated with key national platforms such as the Indian Customs Electronic Data Interchange Gateway, Unit Linked Insurance Plan, and Motor Vehicle Ecosystem, the LPMS will enable interoperable, efficient, and transparent border management.
The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), a legal entity under the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Department of Border Management, is responsible for developing and managing land ports to facilitate trade connectivity and regional cooperation.
Currently, the LPAI operates 15 land ports along India’s international borders, including Attari and Dera Baba Nanak on the India-Pakistan border; Rupaiyida, Raxaul, and Jogbani on the India-Nepal border; Darang on the India-Bhutan border; Petrapole, Dawki, Sutarkandi, Golakganj, and Manikachar on the India-Bangladesh border; and Moreh on the India-Myanmar border.
