Gandhinagar, May 17: Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Sunday that the recent local body elections in Gujarat showcased the BJP’s remarkable victory, reflecting the public’s trust in a ‘development-oriented governance.’ He emphasized that both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have been completely rejected by the electorate.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating and laying the foundation for development projects worth ₹620 crores under the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, Shah attributed the BJP’s electoral success to party workers’ consistent engagement with the public and their efforts to address local issues.
He noted that the development journey initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat is being carried forward by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s government. “The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and the state government have collaborated on projects related to drinking water supply, sewage treatment, lake beautification, roads, libraries, health facilities, and yoga centers,” he added.
Referring to the local body elections, Shah asserted that the BJP’s victory clearly indicates the public’s confidence in the party’s governance and development agenda. He remarked that the Congress has been entirely wiped out in these elections, stating, “Even with a telescope, you won’t find the Congress.”
Targeting the AAP, Shah criticized the opposition party for its repeated claims that failed to resonate with the public. He pointed out that while they have been eliminated in Delhi, they could not even open their account in Gujarat. The BJP emerged victorious in municipal corporations, municipalities, district panchayats, and taluka panchayats across the state.
Shah highlighted that elections were held in all municipal corporations, with the BJP winning in each one. Out of 84 municipalities, the BJP secured victory in 77, while it won 33 out of 34 district panchayats and 253 out of 260 taluka panchayats. This support, he noted, is linked to the efforts of BJP workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Home Minister praised party workers for their selfless service, stating they worked tirelessly to deliver ration kits, assist patients to hospitals, arrange testing facilities, and manage queues at vaccination centers. Many workers contracted COVID-19, and some even lost their lives, yet they continued to serve the community.
Shah concluded that this dedication has strengthened public trust in the BJP. He emphasized that the party’s political strength in Gujarat is built not on temporary campaigns but through sustained public engagement and service.
During the event, Shah also inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects including urban health centers, overhead water tanks, community buildings, road development, sports facilities, sewage treatment infrastructure, and internal roads in newly developed areas of Gandhinagar.
The program was attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Urban Development Minister Darshana Ben Vaghela, MLA Alpesh Thakor, Gandhinagar Mayor Miraben Patel, and senior officials from the municipal corporation and district administration.
