Amit Bahal Discusses the Journey of September-21 Ahead of Cannes Premiere

Mumbai, May 8: Indian cinema is making a significant mark on global platforms. In this context, the upcoming Hindi-Kannada film ‘September-21’ is set to make waves at the Cannes Film Festival. Actors Praveen Singh Sisodia and Amit Bahal shared insights about the film’s journey, their roles, and the achievement of being featured at Cannes.

Amit Bahal expressed his astonishment regarding the film’s premiere at Cannes, stating, “Honestly, we never imagined that this film, created with love and dedication, would reach such a grand platform. It is a significant achievement for director Karen Kshiti Suvarna, whose first feature film has been selected for Cannes after her short film.”

He revealed that the invitation to the film festival arrived in French, which was later translated and shared with the entire team and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). Bahal expressed hope for a tremendous response to the film.

‘September-21’ is not merely a story about an illness; it delves into the struggles of caregivers and the complexities of human relationships. Praveen Singh Sisodia believes the film educates audiences while also connecting with them emotionally.

He remarked, “The film contains light-hearted moments, humor, and warmth, but it also portrays the realities of Alzheimer’s and the challenges faced by caregivers. It is an intellectually and emotionally layered film, making it a complete experience. This film is entirely different from my previous projects. I portray a character suffering from Alzheimer’s. The journey, from research to embodying that pain on camera, has been profound for me. It is a story that reaches straight to the heart.”

Meanwhile, Amit Bahal described this film as one of the most meaningful in his career. He stated, “This film is not just for entertainment; it compels society to think and feel. During the shooting, we had no idea that it would make it to the Cannes Festival. Our focus was solely on acting honestly. The style of acting depends on the film’s genre. Since this film is based on a very real issue, we aimed to keep our performances as natural as possible, ensuring that everything, from acting to emotions, felt as genuine as possible.”
