Mumbai, June 8: Bollywood actress Amisha Patel made a remarkable mark early in her career. Her role as Sakina in the film ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ continues to resonate with audiences today. Amisha triumphed over more than 500 girls to secure this role, enduring hours of auditions.
Born on June 9, 1975, in Mumbai to a Gujarati family, Amisha completed her schooling in the city before pursuing higher education in the United States. She studied economics at Tufts University, where she excelled academically, earning a gold medal and serving as head girl. Despite her academic success, she felt drawn to the world of cinema.
Upon returning to India, Amisha began her acting career in theater, joining the renowned playwright Satyadev Dubey’s theater group, where she honed her craft. She also ventured into modeling and advertising.
In 2000, Amisha’s career took a significant turn when she was cast in director Rakesh Roshan’s film ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai,’ alongside Hrithik Roshan. The film was a massive box office success, catapulting her to stardom. Audiences adored her innocence and screen presence. Following this success, she also worked in the South Indian film industry, appearing in the Telugu film ‘Badri.’
However, her most notable popularity came from the 2001 release ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.’ The character of Sakina remains a beloved figure among fans. Reports indicate that Amisha’s selection for this role was highly competitive, with over 500 actresses auditioning. She reportedly auditioned for nearly 12 hours straight.
In 2002, her film ‘Humraaz’ was released, performing well at the box office. However, her career faced ups and downs afterward. She appeared in several films, including ‘Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar,’ ‘Kranti,’ ‘Kya Yeh Pyaar Hai,’ ‘Aap Mujhe Achhe Lagne Lage,’ ‘Yeh Hai Jalwa,’ ‘Parwana,’ ‘Suno Sasur Ji,’ ‘Honeymoon Travels Private Limited,’ ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa,’ and ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic.’ While some of these films flopped, others achieved moderate success.
Years later, in 2023, Amisha Patel once again captured the audience’s attention with the release of ‘Gadar 2,’ where she reprised her iconic role of Sakina.
