Mumbai, June 24: Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, stated on Wednesday that India has emerged as a crucial market for the company’s quick commerce expansion. He revealed that the ‘Amazon Now’ service has become the fastest-growing e-commerce business unit for Amazon in India.
After visiting an ‘Amazon Now’ micro-fulfillment center located in one of Mumbai’s busiest areas, Jassy shared his insights. He noted that the service is experiencing exceptional growth, as customers prefer receiving deliveries within minutes of placing their orders.
These micro-fulfillment centers are designed to quickly pick and dispatch everyday essentials such as groceries, shampoos, children’s products, and household items directly to customers.
With this setup, customers can receive their orders within just a few minutes.
Jassy remarked, “Being in India and visiting the ‘Amazon Now’ micro-fulfillment center in one of Mumbai’s busiest areas has been a fantastic experience.”
He added, “Products like groceries, shampoos, children’s items, and other essentials are picked and delivered to customers within minutes of receiving orders.”
According to Jassy, Prime members who start using this service see a significant increase in their shopping frequency. He noted that after beginning to use the service, Prime members shop nearly three times more than before.
He also mentioned that since the launch of this service in India, the number of orders has doubled each quarter.
“Customers are really enjoying this service. Prime members triple their shopping frequency after they start using it, and we have seen the number of orders double each quarter since the launch,” Jassy stated.
Highlighting ‘Amazon Now’ as the company’s fastest-growing e-commerce venture in India, Jassy revealed plans to expand the service to over 300 cities.
He emphasized that the company’s goal is to establish the largest network for minute-by-minute deliveries in India.
Jassy explained that the innovations and operational experiences gained while developing the quick commerce model in India are now aiding Amazon in expanding similar services in the U.S. and other international markets.
Expressing confidence in the future prospects for the company in India, Jassy stated that he is proud of the teams, employees, and partners who contributed to building this business.
He concluded by saying that the opportunities in the Indian market are just beginning, and there is immense potential for growth in the future.
