Allegations of Fake Voters in Bhopals Narela Constituency: Digvijaya Singh Raises Concerns

Bhopal, March 9: Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh has raised serious allegations regarding the inclusion of thousands of fake voters in the final electoral roll of Bhopal’s Narela constituency. He submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer of Madhya Pradesh, demanding a fair investigation into the matter, supported by evidence.

Singh stated that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process conducted by the Election Commission aims to purify the voter list. This process requires Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to conduct 100% physical verification door-to-door, ensuring that names of deceased or migrated individuals are removed and new eligible voters are added. However, evidence has emerged indicating that a significant number of fake voters’ names have been added in contravention of this process in the Narela constituency.

He mentioned that Manoj Shukla, a former Congress candidate from Narela, conducted a ground-level inspection of the voter list. He discovered that many names were registered in the final electoral roll issued on February 21, 2026, for individuals who do not even reside at the listed addresses. Among the property owners with fraudulent voter registrations are Pokhanlal Sahu (House No. 2), Kamalendra Kumar Gupta (House No. 10), and Hamir Singh Yadav (House No. 21) from Ratan Colony, Karonde, Bhopal.

These homeowners testified under oath before the Chief Electoral Officer that multiple names are registered at their addresses. For instance, only six people reside at Pokhanlal Sahu’s home, yet the revised list shows approximately 65 voters registered at that address.

Similarly, Hamir Singh Yadav’s household consists of 4-5 residents, but around 45 names are listed at his address. In another case, Kamalendra Kumar Gupta’s home has only eight members, yet the initial list contained 70 names, and even after the SIR process, 40-45 names remain registered there.

The homeowners expressed concern that they do not recognize these individuals and that they have never lived in their houses. They fear that if any criminal or other incidents occur in the future, they could be unjustly held responsible.

Digvijaya Singh urged the Chief Electoral Officer to immediately remove the names of these fake voters from the electoral roll based on the affidavits submitted by the homeowners. He also called for an independent committee to be formed to conduct a thorough investigation into the entire issue.

The Chief Electoral Officer of Madhya Pradesh assured the delegation that the complaints and evidence presented would be thoroughly investigated, and necessary actions would be taken.
