New Delhi, July 22: Members of the Samajwadi Party (SP) protested in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday by wearing black clothes, voicing their concerns that the government is ignoring students. They emphasized that the treatment of students is detrimental to the nation.
SP President Akhilesh Yadav raised questions to journalists regarding the government’s reluctance to remove the education minister. He suggested that there may be some pressure on the government and questioned whether the minister holds secrets that prevent his dismissal. “The government seems to be afraid,” Yadav stated.
SP MP Dimple Yadav referenced the student protests at Jantar Mantar, praising the courage of students who raised their voices. However, she expressed concern over the police’s actions against them. She challenged the BJP’s claims of ‘Ram Rajya,’ asserting that protesting is a fundamental right in a democracy. The treatment of students and protesters by police and security forces was deemed unacceptable.
Dimple Yadav remarked on the beauty of democracy, stating that people should have the freedom to express their opinions and protest. She criticized the use of batons, tear gas, and force against students, calling it contrary to democratic values. Those advocating for ‘Ram Rajya’ should answer whether such treatment aligns with their vision of governance.
SP MP Dharmendra Yadav affirmed that the opposition stands with the students and urged the government to address their issues. He noted that while protests can be ended, the opposition will continue to raise the students’ voices on various platforms until their demands are met. He labeled the police action on July 20 as a ‘black day’ that affected thousands of students.
Dharmendra Yadav highlighted the importance of public trust in democracy, urging the government to recognize its responsibilities. He cited the farmers’ movement as an example, where prolonged protests led to the repeal of agricultural laws.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MP Mahua Majhi commented on the Congress-led protests, stating that if the purpose is just, then democratic methods of dissent cannot be condemned. She questioned the alleged baton charge and use of tear gas against students, suggesting that their issues could have been resolved through dialogue.
