Mumbai, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of fellow filmmaker Sanjay Gupta. In a heartfelt tribute, he reflected on their friendship, which spanned nearly 25 years. Kashyap shared that there are many stories and conversations that will now remain unfinished.
On Instagram, he posted an old photograph of the two, reminiscing about their early days together. Kashyap recalled how Gupta founded his production company, White Feather Films, as a tribute to his greatest inspiration, filmmaker John Woo. In an emotional note, he wrote, “This news is as heartbreaking as it is shocking. Sanjay’s departure from this world is incredibly sad. We had many unfinished conversations and stories that were meant to be shared.”
Kashyap emphasized that he was present when Gupta established White Feather Films, which honored Woo, one of his biggest influences. He expressed disbelief at Gupta’s sudden passing, stating, “I thought my friend had the strength to overcome his long illness once more. He had done it before, and it seemed like he could do it again.”
Reflecting on their friendship, Kashyap remembered how Gupta would help him find DVDs of films he wanted to watch, guiding him on where to obtain them. “We hadn’t been in touch for a while, but there was a time about 25 years ago when he helped me with that,” he noted.
In closing, Kashyap extended his condolences to Gupta’s family, particularly to his wife Anu and their children, wishing them strength during this difficult time. He concluded with a heartfelt message: “My sympathies are with Anu and the children, and I pray for their strength. Rest in peace, Gups.”
