Lucknow, May 20: Akhilesh Yadav, the national president of the Samajwadi Party (SP), has criticized the government regarding reservations in the recruitment of 69,000 teachers. He pledged that if his party comes to power, the recruitment process will be completed within 90 days, ensuring justice for candidates. Yadav also stated that a caste census would be conducted immediately upon taking office.
During a press conference held at the party headquarters in Lucknow, Yadav released a document titled ‘PDA Audit’. He claimed that the rights of backward, Dalit, and marginalized communities were overlooked in the teacher recruitment process. According to him, candidates did not receive the full benefit of seats allocated for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the 2019 recruitment of 69,000 assistant teachers.
He alleged that OBC representation was significantly lower than the promised 27 percent, and there were also reductions in reservations for Scheduled Castes. Yadav emphasized that thousands of positions meant for reserved categories were unjustly left vacant, with many Scheduled Tribe positions also unfilled. He remarked that if youth and candidates are compelled to seek justice in courts, it reflects the government’s biased practices.
He stated, “A biased government cannot deliver justice. Reservations are a means of social justice and equal opportunity.” Yadav further asserted that if bulldozers are to be used, they should target social inequalities and ensure equal rights for all. He accused the government of intensifying efforts to weaken the reservation system since 2014.
The SP leader criticized systems like ‘lateral entry’ for undermining the rights of backward and marginalized groups. He clarified that reservations are not a privilege but a constitutional right. During the press conference, Yadav highlighted the long-standing inequalities in society and noted that Baba Saheb Ambedkar paved the way for social justice through the Constitution.
He accused the BJP of wanting to weaken the reservation system that has been instrumental for the advancement of marginalized communities. On the topics of women’s reservation and social justice, he asserted that all groups should receive rights proportional to their population. When questioned about his electoral strategy, he refrained from disclosing details.
Yadav also targeted both the central and state governments regarding the country’s economy. He pointed out that the economic situation is deteriorating, stating that the government is neither allowing people to earn nor spend. He concluded that merely chanting slogans about a ‘trillion-dollar economy’ will not improve economic conditions.
