New Delhi, June 2: The IPL 2026 season has been filled with excitement and outstanding performances. As with every season, several players have made a significant impact. Former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra has selected the standout players of this season.
In a video shared on the social media platform X, Akash named KL Rahul’s unbeaten 152 runs off 67 balls against Punjab Kings as the best innings of the season. Rahul’s remarkable performance included 16 fours and 9 sixes, leading Delhi Capitals to a massive total of 264 runs for just 2 wickets, marking the team’s highest score.
Akash also recognized Vaibhav Suryaanshi of Rajasthan Royals as the best opener of IPL 2026. He noted that no one came close to the 15-year-old batsman, who had a stellar season, scoring 776 runs at a strike rate of 237 across 16 matches.
Vaibhav set several records during IPL 2026, becoming the batsman with the most sixes in a single season, hitting 72 sixes and surpassing Chris Gayle’s previous record of 59. Additionally, he became the youngest player to win the Orange Cap and the highest uncapped run-scorer in a season.
Akash selected Heinrich Klaasen from Sunrisers Hyderabad as the best middle-order batsman of the season. Klaasen scored 624 runs at a strike rate of 160 in 15 matches, placing him among the top five run-scorers of IPL 2026.
Former Indian cricketer Donovan Ferreira was named the best finisher, while Akash chose Bhuvneshwar Kumar from Royal Challengers Bangalore as the best fast bowler. Bhuvneshwar’s performance was exceptional, taking 28 wickets at an economy rate of 17.89 across 16 matches, making him the second-highest wicket-taker of the season.
