Chandigarh, June 20: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) executive committee criticized Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for allegedly challenging the authority of the Akal Takht on public platforms, which they claim is hurting the religious sentiments of the people.
During a meeting chaired by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal, the committee stated that Mann is intentionally trying to create divisions within the Sikh community. They expressed a widespread sentiment that Mann has committed a serious offense against Guru Sahib and is exacerbating his mistake by contesting the evidence presented by the Akal Takht.
Party leader Daljit Singh Cheema revealed that the committee passed a resolution demanding the immediate resignation of the Chief Minister. He noted that the meeting also discussed the Akal Takht’s assertion that the controversial video linked to Mann is authentic and not generated by artificial intelligence (AI). In response, Mann is reportedly attempting to suppress the matter by presenting lab reports within 24 hours.
Cheema stated, “In such a situation, Bhagwant Mann is not fit to remain in office for even a minute.”
Later, Sukhbir Badal engaged with members of the Shiromani Committee regarding the issue. Members indicated that Mann had misled the Sikh community by claiming the controversial video was AI-generated.
Despite repeated reminders, Mann did not initiate a forensic examination of the video for five months. Consequently, the Akal Takht conducted its own forensic analysis.
Meanwhile, the executive committee also reviewed the organizational structure, focusing particularly on booth-level committees. Sukhbir Badal announced that the complete organizational framework would be established within the next two weeks.
The committee accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of suppressing democratic protests, conducting unprovoked lathi charges, and deteriorating law and order in the state.
