Cairo, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in Cairo on September 16. The two leaders engaged in discussions focused on mutual relations and regional security concerns.
During their meeting, they agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation and address obstacles to increasing trade and investment flows. This information was shared in an official statement from the Egyptian presidential office.
President Sisi condemned any attacks or threats against Saudi Arabia‘s sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity, fully rejecting such actions. He reiterated Egypt’s support for measures ensuring Saudi security and advocated for a comprehensive and lasting political solution to the Yemen crisis.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman praised Egypt’s role in maintaining regional peace and stability. He also acknowledged Egypt’s support and solidarity with Saudi Arabia amid recent geopolitical challenges.
This meeting comes at a time of escalating cross-border conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi group in Yemen. On Monday, the Houthi group claimed to have launched several ballistic missiles and drones at a major military airbase located in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, last week, Houthi fighters captured the strategically important port of Mocha and advanced southward, gaining control over the Bab al-Mandeb Strait area and Mayyun Island. This has strengthened their grip on the vital maritime route connecting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
On the same day, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also met with Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), in Jeddah. The two sides reviewed the current regional situation and discussed bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and the United States.
