
Baramati witnessed the final farewell of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, who was laid to rest on Thursday with full state honours. The funeral saw the presence of his entire family, with his two sons performing the last rites by lighting the funeral pyre.
Several prominent leaders paid their respects, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President Nitin Naveen, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray.
Earlier, a large crowd participated in Ajit Pawar’s funeral procession, leading to significant traffic congestion on the roads of Baramati.
Ajit Pawar’s mortal remains were brought to his residence in Katewadi on Thursday morning. He had died in a plane crash on Wednesday at 8:45 am, which also claimed the lives of his security personnel, two pilots, and a female crew member, totaling five fatalities. In honour of his death, Maharashtra observed three days of state mourning during which all government buildings displayed the national flag at half-mast.
The police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) concerning the plane crash. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has taken charge of the investigation. The ill-fated aircraft, a Learjet 45 bearing registration number VT-SSK, was operated by VSR Ventures.
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the crashed plane was a Learjet 45 registered as VT-SSK and managed by operator VSR Ventures. The flight crew initially aborted the landing sequence but were later cleared to land on runway 11 precisely at 8:43 am.
The incident has triggered extensive inquiries as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the crash.
