Ajit Pawar Dies in Plane Crash, Leaders Express Deep Condolences

New Delhi: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar died on Wednesday in a plane crash near Baramati. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that all passengers on board the aircraft lost their lives.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh expressed his sorrow over Ajit Pawar’s death, calling it an “irreparable loss to both social and political spheres.” He said, “According to reports, six people were on the plane, including Ajit Pawar. If this is true, today is a very unfortunate day.”

Giriraj Singh added that such a major accident has not been witnessed in the past decade. He described Ajit Pawar as a good politician who was well-liked by the public and was travelling for election campaigning. “This accident has shaken us deeply,” he said.

Senior advocate and former MP Majid Memon also mourned the loss, stating, “The news of the plane crash and the death of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar along with others is very sad. Ajit Pawar was an active and dynamic leader. Though he faced some criticism for separating from the main party, he served decisively as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister.”

Memon added, “I worked with Ajit Pawar for 25-30 years, closely for nearly 20 years since 2002. He was a unique leader—very aggressive, dynamic, and steadfast in his beliefs. He was also accused of differences with some party members after leaving NCP.”

Reports indicate that Ajit Pawar was heading to Baramati on Wednesday to participate in rallies ahead of local body elections. His death has prompted condolences from President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and many other leaders across the country.
