Mumbai, August 12: Recently retired Indian cricket star Ajinkya Rahane is set to take on a new role in the sport. He will make his commentary debut during the upcoming Test series between Sri Lanka and India, starting August 15 in Galle.
At 38, Rahane will now share his insights not from the pitch, but from the commentary box. Known for his long-standing contribution to Test cricket, he will begin his commentary journey focusing on this format.
Expressing his excitement, Rahane stated, “I am thrilled to debut in Test commentary for India’s tour of Sri Lanka on Sony Sports Network and Sony Liv. Test cricket is the pinnacle of our game. After representing India in this format for so many years, it is a privilege to view the game from a different perspective. Rahane announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket on July 30, 2026. This formidable batsman, hailing from Mumbai, made his debut in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20s in 2011, followed by his Test debut in 2013. His last international appearance was in July 2023.
Over his career, Rahane played 85 Tests, 90 ODIs, and 20 T20 matches. He scored 5,077 runs in 144 Test innings, including 12 centuries and 26 half-centuries. In ODIs, he amassed 2,962 runs with 3 centuries and 24 half-centuries, while in T20s, he recorded 375 runs with one half-century.
