New Delhi, August 12: Pakistan has received a significant boost ahead of the upcoming three-match Test series against England. Injured former captain Shan Masood has recovered and is likely to participate in the series. He has commenced his training sessions.
According to a statement from the Pakistan team management, the national Test squad participated in a practice session at Kent County Cricket Club in Beckenham. During this session, players engaged in batting and bowling net practices. Injured batsman Shan Masood also took part, practicing under the supervision of the medical team.
Masood’s return to training suggests he could be part of the first Test against England, which begins on August 19, just seven days away. His participation in this match seems highly probable.
Masood sustained a finger injury during the first Test of the West Indies tour, where he scored a century. However, he did not bat in the second innings due to the injury and later experienced discomfort while batting. Consequently, he missed the second Test.
His fitness will undoubtedly strengthen Pakistan’s batting lineup, as Masood bats at number three. He scored a century in his last match, and his extensive experience playing county cricket in England could be invaluable.
Currently, Pakistan stands eighth in the World Test Championship standings. Under the leadership of new captain Babar Azam, Pakistan aims to maintain their performance after winning the second Test in the West Indies. Before the first Test, Pakistan will also play a three-day tour match in Beckenham.
