New Delhi, June 22: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced a nationwide movement to protest the marginalization of Muslims and the demolition of mosques and madrasas. This decision was made during a meeting on Monday.
The board’s executive committee has formed a working group to coordinate with pro-democracy and peace-loving sections of society. The movement aims to highlight issues such as the promotion of hatred and hostility, the undermining of communal harmony, and attacks on the lives, property, dignity, and respect of Muslims.
During the meeting, chaired by Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, it was noted that the forced implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) contradicts the religious freedom guaranteed under Article 25 of the Indian Constitution.
The executive committee also expressed concern over legislative efforts underway in BJP-ruled states under the guise of the UCC. It was revealed that after Uttarakhand and Gujarat, preparations are now being made to implement the UCC in Assam, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
The committee resolved to challenge similar laws in other states, just as it has contested Uttarakhand’s UCC law in the Nainital High Court.
The committee stated that attempts to make “Vande Mataram” mandatory are contrary to Article 25 of the Constitution. The board clarified that if the central government takes steps to mandate “Vande Mataram” for all citizens or school students through Parliament, it will approach the courts against such measures.
The executive committee welcomed the interim order from the Calcutta High Court that halted the West Bengal government’s directive making the singing of “Vande Mataram” compulsory in schools and madrasas.
It was emphasized that the content of “Vande Mataram” contradicts the Islamic belief in the oneness of God (Tawheed), and thus is not permissible under Islamic law.
The board urged Muslims not to compromise their beliefs and faith in the name of tolerance or patriotism.
