Major Drug Bust in Gariaband: Over 81 Kilograms of Cannabis Seized, 9 Arrested

Raipur, July 1: In a significant operation against illegal drugs, police in Gariaband district, Chhattisgarh, seized 81.374 kilograms of cannabis. Nine suspects were arrested in connection with this case. The estimated value of the seized cannabis is around ₹40.68 lakh. Additionally, two cars, two motorcycles, and 13 mobile phones were confiscated.

Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Vedvrat Sirmaur, all police station heads in the district were instructed to launch special campaigns to curb cannabis trafficking. During this initiative, police received a tip-off about cannabis being smuggled from Odisha via various vehicles.

Based on this information, police from Devbhog, Indagaon, and Paylikhand conducted vehicle checks at different locations. At the interstate checkpoint in Khutgaon, police searched two suspicious cars. During the search, they recovered 8.100 kilograms from one car and 40.200 kilograms from the other, leading to the arrest of three suspects.

Meanwhile, the Indagaon police stopped a motorcycle without a license plate for inspection. During the search, they found 10 kilograms of cannabis in the possession of two suspects, who were subsequently arrested and charged under the NDPS Act.

In another operation, the Paylikhand police, acting on a tip-off, apprehended four suspects near the Amad Tirahe. They recovered 22.740 kilograms of cannabis from three bags in their possession. A motorcycle was also seized, and all four suspects were arrested.

The police have registered cases against all suspects under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act and presented them in court. In total, 81.374 kilograms of cannabis, valued at approximately ₹40,68,700, was seized, along with two cars, two motorcycles (worth around ₹6.50 lakh), and 13 mobile phones (valued at about ₹65,000).
