Manchester, August 5: The Manchester Super Giants (MSG) have faced a significant setback in the ongoing ‘The Hundred 2026’ season. Team captain Aiden Markram has departed the tournament due to personal reasons, returning home to South Africa. Michael Bracewell has been brought in to replace him, while Jos Buttler has been appointed as the new captain.
According to a report from Cricinfo, Markram will not participate in the remaining matches of ‘The Hundred 2026’. He left the tournament in England midway for personal matters.
The franchise confirmed via a social media post on Wednesday, stating, “Manchester Super Giants can confirm that men’s team captain Aiden Markram has returned to South Africa due to personal reasons. Everyone at Super Giants wishes Aiden well at this time and thanks him for his contributions during this year’s competition.”
Markram has been a part of all three teams under the Super Giants franchise, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), SA20, and The Hundred. So far in The Hundred, he has played five matches, scoring 117 runs at an average of 23.40. He recently made a notable contribution with a 50-run innings against MI London.
On the other hand, Jos Buttler has been in exceptional form this season. The wicketkeeper-batsman has scored 226 runs at an impressive average of 112 across just five matches. Taking on the captaincy role for the first time since the 2025 Champions Trophy, he aims to maintain his momentum.
MSG has struggled to perform consistently in ‘The Hundred 2026’, winning only two of their first five matches. With three losses, the team currently sits in sixth place on the points table and must make a strong comeback in the remaining matches to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.
