Chennai, June 3: AIADMK leader and MP I.S. Inbadurai raised concerns on Wednesday regarding the security arrangements for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. He questioned why a private bodyguard accompanies the new Chief Minister despite the extensive government security in place.
Vijay recently led his party, TVK, to victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and subsequently assumed the role of Chief Minister. He currently benefits from multiple layers of official security provided by the state government.
These arrangements include a highly restricted security network and designated personnel tasked with ensuring the Chief Minister’s safety during public appearances and official duties.
In a post on the social media platform X, Inbadurai questioned the necessity of a private security associate working alongside the official security team. He asked why, with several levels of official protection already provided by the government, including a specialized “core cell,” the Chief Minister requires a private bodyguard.
The AIADMK leader also raised concerns about whether the presence of a private security guard indicates a lack of trust in the security provided by the Tamil Nadu police and other official agencies responsible for the Chief Minister’s safety.
He expressed worries regarding the established security protocols and access regulations controlling high-security zones around the Chief Minister. Inbadurai questioned whether an individual not part of the government security system could legally serve as a continuous security shadow for the Chief Minister.
He further inquired if it is appropriate for someone outside the government security framework to work as a bodyguard within the Chief Minister’s security area according to security protocols.
The MP demanded clarification on the legal and procedural basis for allowing such an individual access to the highly sensitive “access control zone” created around the Chief Minister.
He urged the Tamil Nadu administration to clarify whether the presence of a private bodyguard within the Chief Minister’s security perimeter aligns with established security standards and whether adequate measures are in place to prevent any compromise of official security procedures.
