Ahmedabad, June 17: The Ahmedabad Crime Branch successfully returned 410 stolen mobile phones to their rightful owners on Tuesday, as part of the ‘Tera Tujh Ko Arpan’ initiative. The total value of these phones exceeds ₹63 lakh.
According to police reports, incidents of mobile phone theft, snatching, and loss are frequently reported in Ahmedabad. In response to the rising number of complaints, the Crime Branch launched a special campaign aimed at tracing lost mobile phones and reuniting them with their owners.
During this operation, investigators utilized data from the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, along with technical intelligence and tracking methods, to locate the mobile devices.
The Crime Branch confirmed that a total of 410 mobile phones, valued at ₹63,15,908, were successfully recovered. After the phones were found, police verified the owners’ identities through technical means and contacted them.
The owners were then invited to the Ahmedabad Crime Branch office, where their mobile phones were returned as part of the ‘Tera Tujh Ko Arpan’ program. All recovered phones were returned only after confirming their identity and ownership.
This initiative highlights the increasing use of the CEIR system, a central platform by the Department of Telecommunications, which allows for the blocking, tracking, and tracing of lost or stolen mobile phones using their IMEI numbers.
According to the CEIR dashboard, over 3.3 million mobile phones have been traced nationwide, and more than 5.3 million devices have been blocked. The ‘Tera Tujh Ko Arpan’ initiative aims to expedite the return of recovered property to citizens.
In Gujarat, this program has streamlined the process of returning seized and recovered assets to their original owners, reducing delays in investigations and legal proceedings.
Officials noted that through this initiative, property worth over ₹500 crore has been returned to thousands of citizens across the state. The actions taken in Ahmedabad are part of ongoing efforts to trace lost property through technology-based policing and return it to the public.
