Wellington: New Zealand cricket team suffered a major setback ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup as right-arm fast bowler Adam Milne has been ruled out due to injury. Kyle Jamieson has been named as his replacement in the squad.
Adam Milne sustained an injury to his left hamstring while bowling during the South Africa T20 league on Sunday. This injury has dashed his hopes of participating in the upcoming World Cup.
New Zealand head coach Rob Walter expressed his disappointment, saying, “We are all saddened for Adam. He worked very hard preparing for the tournament and was performing at his best for Eastern Cape Sunrisers. This is a tough time for him and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Walter praised Kyle Jamieson, who has now been included in the World Cup team, calling him a worthy replacement. “Kyle is a hardworking player with good skills and experience, making him valuable for the tournament. It’s great that he is already with us in India. He is an important part of our pace bowling group and has performed exceptionally well on this tour,” Walter added.
Kyle Jamieson, a 31-year-old right-arm fast bowler, has played 24 T20 matches for New Zealand, taking 23 wickets. Initially selected as a reserve player, he has now been promoted to the main squad. Jamieson is currently part of New Zealand’s ongoing white-ball tour of India.
New Zealand has been placed in Group D for the World Cup alongside South Africa, Afghanistan, UAE, and Canada. The presence of South Africa and Afghanistan makes it a challenging group. New Zealand’s campaign will begin on 8 February against Afghanistan at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
