Mumbai, June 13: Abhishek Banerjee has responded to allegations of arrogance, stating that Kalyan Banerjee has guided him since childhood. He criticized the BJP, asserting that the government has changed and they may attempt to entangle him in various cases. However, he made it clear that he will not yield to pressure. He stated, “The government has changed. They will try to link me to every possible case, but we will not step back an inch.”
Comparing the situations of 2011 and 2026, Banerjee claimed that the atmosphere in the state has completely transformed. He noted, “Look at the difference between 2011 and 2026. The streets are deserted after 8 PM, and the BJP is unable to hold victory parades.”
Banerjee also accused the BJP of reneging on promises made before the elections. He mentioned that prior to the elections, the BJP spoke of the ‘Annapurna Bhandar Yojana,’ but now the state is witnessing ‘bulldozer politics.’
Regarding summons from investigative agencies, Banerjee stated that he has always cooperated with investigations and will continue to do so. The TMC General Secretary revealed that he collaborated with officials for about five and a half hours and arrived at Bhawanipur before the court-mandated time.
He added, “I will be in Kolkata on June 14 and will appear again if necessary. I have never tried to evade any investigation. Whether it is a central agency or a state agency, I will always continue to cooperate.”
Banerjee questioned the process of issuing summons, suggesting that if he had been called on the phone, he would have stayed home. The first summons was issued on the 30th, but he was attacked that same day, leading him to go to Delhi. He received a notice on the 8th, requesting his presence on the 9th, but he was still in Delhi at that time. After returning to Kolkata, he learned about the High Court‘s directives and appeared before the investigative agency within the stipulated time.
Responding to a case filed regarding his election statements, Banerjee raised the question of why the Union Home Minister has not been summoned for questioning regarding statements made during the same election period when law and order was the responsibility of the Election Commission.
