Abhishek Banerjee Accuses BJP of Manipulating Voter Lists in Bengal

Kolkata, March 31: Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Member of Parliament, has leveled serious allegations against the BJP regarding manipulation of voter lists.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Banerjee stated, “The BJP has mastered the dirty art of tampering with voter lists. They practiced in Delhi and Maharashtra, and now they are playing the real game in Bengal.”

He provided statistics showing that in Maharashtra, 4,384,814 voters were added over the past five years, while 4,081,229 additional voters were added in just five months. In Delhi, 416,648 voters increased over four years, but 399,362 were added in just seven months. He warned that the real fraud is not in the EVMs but in the voter lists, and this is now happening in Bengal.

Banerjee also shared a video showing fake ‘Form-6’ applications being openly submitted in cartons at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), piled up on the third floor. He alleged that there is a conspiracy to illegally include voters from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in Bengal’s voter list.

He remarked, “There is no provision in the Election Commission’s rules for bulk submission of Form-6. A person can submit a maximum of 50 applications. Yet, a handful of individuals are submitting thousands of forms. This is a blatant violation of the rules and a direct attack on the free and fair electoral process.”

Banerjee criticized the Election Commission for failing to prevent this conspiracy, claiming that the BJP’s slogan ‘Paltono Darkar’ actually means ‘Voter List Paltono Darkar’ and that ‘Poriborton’ (change) signifies ‘Demographic Poriborton’ (demographic change). He accused the BJP of wanting to replace Bengal’s original voters with those from other states to strengthen their position.

This controversy has intensified ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The TMC has also staged protests outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, resulting in clashes between TMC-supported block-level officers (BLOs) and the police.

The BJP has outrightly rejected these allegations, stating that the TMC is merely preparing excuses for a potential defeat. The party claims that the Special Incremental Revision (SIR) of the voter list is being conducted with complete transparency and that all procedures are in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines.
