El Gouna, April 5: In the ongoing Professional Squash Association (PSA) Platinum event in El Gouna, Egypt, Abhay Singh triumphed over Egypt’s world number 13 player, Ali Abu Eleinen, with a score of 9-11, 11-8, 3-11, 11-4, 11-8.
Eleinen took the first game 11-9. However, Singh made a strong comeback in the second game, leveling the match with an 11-8 victory. The momentum shifted rapidly during the match. Eleinen dominated the third game, capitalizing on Singh’s errors to win 11-3.
Trailing 1-2, Abhay regained his form in the fourth game, turning the tide with an aggressive 11-4 win, which set the stage for a decisive final game. After falling behind 7-3 in the last game, he surprised Eleinen with a remarkable comeback.
Ranked 25th in the world, Abhay’s next challenge will be against Egypt’s sixth seed and world number 7, Yusuf Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, world number 20 Anahat Singh faced defeat against top seed Hania El Hammamy of Egypt, who won the women’s first-round match with scores of 11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 11-8.
The 18-year-old Anahat, who recently became the Indian Open champion, initially took a 7-5 lead with her unique attacking play. However, top seed El Hammamy fought back, winning the first set 11-8 and dominating the second set 11-5.
In the third game, El Hammamy appeared to be in control at 4-0, but Anahat showcased her skills, winning nine out of the next ten points. Despite El Hammamy leveling the score to 10-9, Anahat clinched the game with a stunning game-ball winner.
The fourth game posed challenges for Anahat, but the 2022 champion played strongly in the later stages, ultimately winning a hard-fought match after 49 minutes with scores of 11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 11-8.
