AAP Condemns BJP Membership of Rajya Sabha MPs as Unconstitutional

Chandigarh, April 27: The political atmosphere is heating up as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha and six other MPs join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). AAP has strongly objected to this development, labeling it unconstitutional and illegal. Party MP Malwinder Singh Kang expressed sharp criticism, stating that this decision is unilateral and against the Constitution.

In an exclusive interview with a news agency on Monday, Kang clarified that until a final decision is made regarding the petition filed on this matter, any merger cannot be considered valid. He demanded that the memberships of the concerned MPs be revoked immediately.

Kang emphasized that this entire process is not only illegal but also undermines the democratic system. He raised questions about how six or seven Rajya Sabha MPs can claim membership when the BJP has only three MLAs in Punjab. He pointed out that Rajya Sabha members are elected by MLAs, thus raising several constitutional questions regarding this political maneuver.

He further noted that AAP MP Sanjay Singh has also taken an active stance on this issue. Singh has written to the Rajya Sabha Chairman, requesting the revocation of memberships for MPs who switch parties. His argument is that these MPs were elected on AAP tickets, making their party switch subject to anti-defection laws. Until the Chairman makes a decision on this letter, the inclusion of these MPs in the BJP should be deemed entirely unconstitutional.

Targeting the BJP, Malwinder Singh Kang asserted that the party is acting arbitrarily, but he remains confident that their memberships will be revoked in the coming days.
