61 Cattle Seized in Jharkhand Amid Suspected Smuggling Operation
Police in Chaibasa, Jharkhand, seized 61 cattle suspected of being smuggled from Odisha to a local slaughterhouse.

Chaibasa, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant operation, police in Chaibasa, Jharkhand, rescued 61 cattle believed to be victims of smuggling. The animals were reportedly being transported from Odisha to a slaughterhouse in Chaibasa when they were intercepted. Authorities have since relocated the cattle to a local gaushala (cow shelter).
The operation occurred late on November 2, after a local villager spotted suspicious activity near Singhpokharia. He noticed individuals leading the cattle through the bushes and, sensing something was amiss, gathered information about their route. The villager learned that the cattle had originated from Odisha and were headed for a slaughterhouse in Chaibasa. He promptly reported his findings to Amit Renu, the Superintendent of Police for Western Singhbhum.
Upon receiving the tip-off, the Superintendent directed the formation of a special team led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Chaibasa to act on the information. Meanwhile, the vigilant villager continued to monitor the suspects and provided police with updates on their movements.
Based on the gathered intelligence, police set up a blockade in the Tekarahatu area of the Muffasil police jurisdiction. At approximately 11:30 PM, the team successfully seized the cattle. However, details regarding the arrest of those transporting the animals and their identities have not yet been disclosed.
Authorities have confirmed that all 61 cattle are now safe at the gaushala in Chaibasa. The investigation is ongoing, with police working to determine the route the cattle took from Odisha and identifying all individuals involved in this alleged smuggling network, including any potential connections to other regions.
