Opposition Questions Amit Shahs Claims on Illegal Immigrants, Demands Transparency

Congress and JMM leaders challenge Amit Shahs claims about illegal immigrants, urging him to disclose their identities.

New Delhi, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : The recent statement by Home Minister Amit Shah regarding illegal immigrants has sparked sharp criticism from opposition parties, particularly the Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Shah claimed that during a special intensive revision, 13 crore names were removed from voter lists, including 3 crore presumed illegal immigrants.

Congress MP Manish Tewari demanded that Shah release a list of these alleged immigrants. He questioned the Home Minister’s assertion that among the 13 crore disenfranchised voters, 3 crore are illegal immigrants. Tewari challenged Shah to clarify where these immigrants came from, stating, “If there has been infiltration, it is a significant failure of the Home Ministry to prevent it. A responsible person in Shah’s position should disclose the names and origins of these immigrants.”

In Ranchi, JMM leader Manoj Pandey echoed Tewari’s sentiments, urging Shah to publicly identify the alleged illegal immigrants. “We challenge you to do so. Rahul Gandhi has already called for this, and we are reiterating the demand. Identify who these infiltrators are,” he said. Pandey emphasized that if these individuals are indeed illegal immigrants, they have no right to remain in the country and should be reported and expelled.

Contrastingly, in Mumbai, Shiv Sena leader Anand Dubey supported Shah’s statement, asserting that the Home Minister has accurately identified a critical issue. Dubey noted that Shah’s remarks have rattled two groups: the millions of illegal immigrants living in India who vote and assist in forming governments, and those who protect and support these immigrants for political gain.

He added, “Both groups are disturbed by this revelation. If the opposition wishes to challenge the government, Shah has invited Rahul Gandhi to participate in parliamentary proceedings rather than making statements from the outside.”

The political discourse surrounding Shah’s comments continues to unfold, highlighting the tensions between the ruling party and the opposition regarding immigration and voter rights.
