Cyclone Murasu Delays Winter Onset in West Bengal, Relief Expected Before Kali Puja

Cyclone Murasu is causing a delay in winter temperatures in West Bengal, with a forecast for improvement before Kali Puja on November 8.

Kolkata, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : The India Meteorological Department announced on Tuesday that the indirect effects of Cyclone ‘Murasu’ are delaying the onset of winter in West Bengal. As a result, temperatures across the state remain above normal.

According to meteorological predictions, improvements in weather are expected starting Thursday. A drop in temperatures could occur before Kali Puja on November 8, potentially marking the long-awaited arrival of winter in the region. On Tuesday, scattered rain was reported in various parts of Bengal due to the cyclone’s influence.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated in coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu, prompting the issuance of a ‘red alert.’ While West Bengal is not expected to experience direct impacts from the cyclone, its indirect effects may alter local weather conditions.

On Tuesday, skies across all districts were partly cloudy, with light rain possible in certain areas. In northern Bengal, places such as Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar may see light rain. The remaining districts in northern Bengal are expected to remain dry.

In southern Bengal, regions including North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, and Purulia could experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Other districts are likely to remain mostly dry.

The weather department forecasts that from Wednesday to Saturday, conditions will primarily be dry across the state, with the likelihood of rain gradually decreasing. As clouds disperse, nighttime temperatures are expected to drop, creating favorable conditions for the arrival of winter around Kali Puja.

On Monday, Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 31.04 degrees Celsius, just above the normal level of 31 degrees. The minimum temperature was 25.02 degrees Celsius, exceeding the normal by 2.03 degrees.
