14th China-UK Political Party Dialogue Held in Yangzhou

Beijing, May 28: The 14th China-UK Political Party Dialogue took place in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. The theme of the dialogue was “Fully Playing the Role of Political Parties in Building a Long-term, Stable, and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between China and the UK.” Liu Haixing, Director of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), delivered the keynote speech.

Over 60 participants attended the dialogue. Attendees included representatives from relevant Chinese ministries, local governments, and universities, as well as former UK Cabinet Minister and Chairman of the Great Britain-China Centre, David Lidington. Representatives from the UK Labour Party and Conservative Party, officials from the British Embassy and Consulate in China, and industry professionals from both countries were also present.

In his address, Liu Haixing emphasized that as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and leading global economies, China and the UK must fulfill their responsibilities as major powers. He stated that both nations should actively promote genuine multilateralism, encourage political solutions to sensitive issues, and work towards a more just and rational global governance system.

He also noted the necessity of fostering an equal and orderly multipolar world and promoting inclusive economic globalization. Liu stressed the significant role of political parties in advancing China-UK relations. He expressed the CPC’s readiness to enhance mutual understanding, strengthen constructive dialogue, and inject new momentum into practical cooperation with British political parties. Additionally, he highlighted the need to strengthen dialogue on policy agendas, development plans, governance experiences, and global issues.

British representatives, including David Lidington, remarked that the UK and China are important partners. They asserted that a long-term, stable, and comprehensive strategic partnership serves the interests of both sides. They emphasized the importance of maintaining high-level contacts amid a changing global environment and addressing differences constructively while deepening cultural, economic, and trade cooperation. There was also a call to explore new opportunities for collaboration in areas such as technological innovation and financial services.
