Raipur, 8 December (Daily Kiran) – In a significant development, notorious Naxal leader Ramdher Majji along with 11 associates surrendered before security forces in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh on Monday. These Naxals were members of the Maoist organization’s MMC (Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh) zonal committee active near the tri-state border. Ramdher Majji, a Central Committee member of the Maoist outfit, carried a bounty of ₹1.05 crore on his head.
The surrender ceremony was held in Rajnandgaon with the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, DGP Arun Dev Gautam, and ADG (Naxal Operations) Vivekananda Sinha. The Naxals held copies of the Indian Constitution and white rose flowers symbolizing peace and their return to the mainstream.
Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai described the day as “historic” during the press conference, stating that Naxalism had long been the biggest obstacle to Chhattisgarh’s development. He said, “Today, the backbone of Naxalism is broken and it is breathing its last. The decision of senior leader Ramdher Majji to leave violence and join development proves that our strategy is fully successful.”
The Chief Minister praised the firm resolve of the central government and the coordination with the double-engine government. He recalled that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set a target to make the country Naxal-free by 31 March 2026, and Chhattisgarh is progressing rapidly towards this goal. Former Naxals who surrender are also provided skill development training to secure respectable employment.
He added that Bastar will soon be completely free from Naxalism and emerge as a hub for agriculture, tourism, and industrial growth. This year, the traditional Pandum festival in Bastar will be celebrated on a grand scale. Saluting the bravery of security forces, the Chief Minister said, “Our personnel fight day and night in forests risking their lives and have achieved continuous success. The surrender of Ramdher Majji and his associates marks the beginning of the end of Naxalism.”
Chief Minister Sai noted that in the past two years, security forces have achieved unprecedented success, neutralizing over 500 Maoists in encounters and seeing more than 4,000 Naxals surrender or get arrested, signaling the weakening of Naxalism. He said the courage of security forces has given a decisive edge against decades-long violence in Bastar.
Details of the new rehabilitation policy were also shared, including approval of 15,000 Prime Minister housing units for surrendered Naxals, monthly financial assistance of ₹10,000 for three years, skill development training, and employment programs. The Chief Minister emphasized that leaving behind violence and joining the mainstream is now a reality in Bastar. Innovations like the Pandum Cafe symbolize this social change.
With the rapid opening of security camps and increased administrative reach, over 400 villages in Bastar have been resettled. Through the Niyad Nella Nar scheme, basic services such as roads, electricity, drinking water, health, and education are reaching these areas. Villages declared Naxal-free receive a special development fund of ₹1 crore each. The scheme also ensures delivery of schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, ration, and essential documents to remote villages.
