Zhang Shuai and Mertens Win Women’s Doubles at Australian Open

Beijing: Several finals of the Australian Open 2026 concluded on January 31.

Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina defeated top seed Aryna Sabalenka 2-1 to claim her first Australian Open women’s singles title.

In the women’s doubles, China’s experienced player Zhang Shuai teamed up with Belgium’s Elise Mertens to win the championship.

This victory marks another Australian Open women’s doubles title for Zhang Shuai, bringing her total Grand Slam women’s doubles titles to three.

Following this win, Mertens is expected to achieve the world No. 1 ranking in women’s doubles.

In wheelchair tennis, Li Xiaohui won the singles final in straight sets, securing her first Grand Slam singles title.

The final day of this year’s Australian Open on February 1 will feature the men’s singles final, where Novak Djokovic will face Carlos Alcaraz.
