
Berhampur, July 15: A tragic incident has emerged from Berhampur in Ganjam district, Odisha, where a young woman reportedly died from self-immolation. The incident occurred in the Shantinagar area of the Badabazar police station jurisdiction. The deceased has been identified as Rajeshwari.
According to reports, the incident took place around 5 AM on Tuesday while other family members were asleep. The family alleges that Rajeshwari doused herself with kerosene inside their home and set herself on fire.
Upon noticing smoke and the smell of burning, her father rushed to the scene and found her in critical condition. He immediately took her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. After initial treatment, doctors referred her to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack due to her severe condition.
Tragically, Rajeshwari succumbed to her injuries en route to Cuttack.
Following the incident, the Badabazar police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. They are currently questioning family members to uncover the circumstances surrounding the event.
The police have registered an unnatural death (UD) case and are considering all aspects as part of their investigation.
The family claims that Rajeshwari had been struggling with mental health issues for an extended period. However, the police are diligently investigating to ascertain the true circumstances leading to her drastic action.
The investigation continues as authorities seek to understand the factors that may have led Rajeshwari to take such a tragic step, amidst claims of her ongoing mental health challenges.
