Yogi Governments Commitment to Womens Empowerment in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, April 20: The Yogi government has been actively working towards the upliftment of women in Uttar Pradesh since its first day in office. Data from the past nine years confirms that issues such as women’s safety, respect, empowerment, self-reliance, and health have always been top priorities.

To empower women in various ways, the government has introduced new schemes. Over one crore women have been linked to self-help groups, significantly improving their economic conditions.

Programs like the Chief Minister’s Kanya Sumangala Yojana, Lakhpati Didi Yojana, Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage Scheme, and Women Entrepreneurs Product Marketing Scheme have focused on the welfare of half the population. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has consistently advocated for increased participation of women in both Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha.

The government has paid special attention to daughters. Under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, 2.85 crore women and girls have been made aware of their rights. Additionally, more than 5.20 lakh daughters have been married off under the Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage Scheme, while 26.81 lakh daughters have benefited from the Kanya Sumangala Yojana. The Yogi government has turned the slogan “Sabal Nari, Pragati Hamari” into a reality.

The Yogi government has also provided benefits of the PM Swanidhi Scheme to over 2 lakh women. Under the Lakhpati Didi Yojana, 35 lakh women were identified, with 18.55 lakh reaching the status of ‘Lakhpati’.

The Business Correspondent (BC) Sakhi scheme has empowered women in rural areas, enabling them to conduct financial transactions exceeding ₹42,711 crore and earn dividends of ₹116 crore. Following the government’s initiatives, 15,409 electricity Sakhi workers collected ₹3,207 crore in electricity bills and earned commissions of ₹41.3 crore.

In the industrial sector, the Yogi government has encouraged women’s participation by allowing night shifts (from 7 PM to 6 AM) and ensuring a safe working environment. Since 2017, women’s labor force participation in Uttar Pradesh has increased from about 13% to 36%.

On the other hand, to provide social security for destitute women, the Yogi government has increased the monthly pension from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500, offering support to millions. Over the past nine years, the pension amount related to social security has increased fivefold.

Additionally, the Supplementary Nutrition Scheme has improved the lives of 2.12 crore children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.

The Yogi government is also focused on women’s safety. Through the 181 women’s helpline, assistance has been provided to over 8.42 lakh women. The establishment of the ‘Rani Lakshmibai Child and Women Honor Fund’ aims to provide financial compensation to women and girls affected by heinous crimes, with over ₹511 crore disbursed to more than 14,000 victims.
