New Delhi, April 20: The Indian Navy’s sail training ship, INS Sudarshini, is currently en route to Las Palmas, Spain. This vessel is particularly significant for the Indian Navy. The three-masted barque is navigating the seas under sail.
The ship has embarked on a journey covering over 22,000 nautical miles. Before heading to Spain, INS Sudarshini made a stop at Casablanca, Morocco, where it successfully completed its port visit.
This voyage marks an important step in strengthening the maritime partnership between India and Morocco as part of the ongoing ‘Lokayan 26’ deployment.
Notably, INS Sudarshini departed from the naval base in Kochi on January 20. This mission conveys a message of cooperation, trust, and friendship across oceans, inspired by the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and the vision of ‘Oceans’.
Sudarshini is on a nearly 10-month-long journey, during which it will visit a total of 18 foreign ports across 13 countries. During its port visit in Morocco, the commanding officer of INS Sudarshini engaged in professional discussions with senior naval officials, focusing primarily on training exchanges and maritime cooperation.
In Morocco, the essence of ‘Lokayan’ was showcased through active training activities. Interactions were held with cadets from the Royal Moroccan Naval School during cross-deck visits and friendly sports competitions.
To further enhance diplomatic ties, a welcome ceremony was organized on INS Sudarshini, to which the Royal Moroccan Navy reciprocated with a luncheon, strengthening professional and cultural relations.
According to the Ministry of Defence, this voyage reaffirms the deepening maritime relations between the two countries, inspired by shared maritime interests and strategic synergy. INS Sudarshini has now set sail for Las Palmas, Spain, carrying the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and goodwill across the seas.
