Patna, April 18: Neeraj Kumar, spokesperson for the Janata Dal (United), criticized opposition parties for the failure to pass the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill (131st Amendment of the Constitution) in the Lok Sabha. He emphasized that women’s participation is a natural and necessary demand of democracy that can no longer be postponed.
Kumar highlighted the long-standing social barriers faced and overcome by women in the country. Citing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, he noted that the right to vote for women, established post-independence, was a significant step towards equality. He warned that forces attempting to limit women’s rights will face public outrage.
He stressed that there should be no political maneuvering regarding women’s rights. Parties opposing this bill have already lost the trust of women, and this will have political repercussions in the future.
Additionally, Kumar mentioned national security and military achievements, stating that operations like the Balakot airstrike have showcased India’s strength and resolve to the world. He asserted that India has adopted a tough stance against terrorism and successfully exposed Pakistan on the international stage.
Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, also launched a sharp attack on the opposition. He stated that the entire opposition has been revealed due to its feudal and conservative mindset. According to him, opposition parties do not want to see women progress and prefer to confine them to domestic spaces.
Chaudhary noted that significant steps have already been taken towards women’s empowerment in Bihar, and this bill aims to implement that vision on a national level. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative, stating that increasing women’s participation in Parliament and Assemblies will strengthen democracy further.
