New Delhi, April 18: Vijay Singh, the father of former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, passed away on Friday. His last rites were conducted on Saturday at the Lodhi Road crematorium in Delhi.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, along with senior leaders from both AAP and BJP, attended the ceremony, which saw a large turnout of mourners.

Reports indicate that Vijay Singh had been battling various health issues for an extended period.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed her sorrow over the passing of Atishi’s father, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Professor Vijay Singh, the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. In this time of grief, my condolences are with Atishi and her family. May the departed soul find eternal peace, and I pray that God grants the bereaved family the strength to bear this immense loss.”

Arvind Kejriwal remarked that Singh had been struggling with severe illnesses for the past three to four months. He noted the significant turnout at the funeral, highlighting Singh’s popularity as a professor at Delhi University and his esteemed reputation in the academic community. “His passing has left us all in deep sorrow. May God grant peace to his soul,” Kejriwal added.

AAP leader Somnath Bharti emphasized the party’s familial bond, stating, “Whenever such unfortunate events occur in a member’s family, we all feel the pain. Today, you can see that our leader and every member stands here in solidarity with Atishi and her entire family.”

Manish Sisodia, another AAP leader, expressed his condolences, stating that the news of Vijay Singh’s death is profoundly sad. “He dedicated his entire life to education and values, serving society,” he said.
