Chandigarh, April 16: Women across India are expressing their joy over the introduction of the Women Reservation Bill in Parliament. Raj Lali Gill, Chairperson of the Punjab Women’s Commission, spoke to a news agency, highlighting the excitement surrounding the bill. She emphasized the importance of its implementation, urging that it should not remain just a paper promise. Gill noted that the bill will increase the number of seats for women in Parliament, a move already seen in state assemblies and panchayats. “Women are participating in every field; if they are leading in all areas, why should they lag behind here?” she questioned, advocating for a 50% reservation instead of the proposed 33%.
Jyoti Mahawar, a resident of Chandigarh, shared her enthusiasm for the Women Reservation Bill, calling it a significant achievement. “In the past, families often discouraged women from entering politics. However, empowering women at home will strengthen the entire household,” she stated.
Advocate Sumandeep Kaur described the government’s initiative as a highly positive step. “Previously, discussions revolved around women’s empowerment. This bill will increase the representation of women in Parliament, encouraging them to voice their issues,” she explained.
Advocate Geetanjali Wadhwa echoed similar sentiments, stating that the bill represents a significant advancement for women. “Women face numerous challenges, and this legislation will enhance their participation, providing them with opportunities to work in various sectors,” she added.
Ruzan Khambata, founder of the Force Empowerment Foundation, expressed her congratulations to the government for the bill’s introduction. “This legislation has been a topic of discussion for various reasons for a long time. Now that it is set to pass, I am confident it will receive approval,” she remarked.
