Bengaluru, March 31: A woman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle SIM cards and drugs into Bengaluru Central Jail. The suspect, identified as Ritika Rai (27), was apprehended on March 26, according to police reports released on Tuesday.
Authorities stated that the incident occurred around 4 PM in the jail’s General Interview Section, where visitors are routinely screened before meeting inmates. Ritika had obtained a visitor pass to meet an undertrial prisoner, Farhan Khan.
During the security check, a female head constable grew suspicious and took Ritika to an inspection room for a more thorough search. It was discovered that she had concealed three packets of prohibited substances and three Airtel 5G SIM cards in her private parts.
The seized items included approximately 30 grams of cannabis and 30 grams of other narcotics. These items have been confiscated and sealed for further investigation in the presence of senior jail security officials.
Based on a complaint from the assistant sub-inspector on duty, a case has been filed against Ritika Rai under the Karnataka Jail (Amendment) Act, 2022, and relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Officials reported that the accused attempted to evade security checks to deliver the contraband to the inmate. The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
It is noteworthy that a jail warden at Bengaluru Jail was arrested on March 12 for attempting to smuggle drugs to inmates. During a routine check, officials found cannabis, a smoking pipe, and methamphetamine in his possession.
Similarly, on December 7, 2025, a staff member at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru was arrested for trying to smuggle banned items hidden in his undergarments into the high-security facility. The central jail warden, Rahul Patil, was stopped at the main gate when security personnel from the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force noticed something amiss. The metal detector at the door repeatedly beeped, prompting a thorough search, which revealed two packets of cigarettes and approximately 60 grams of a thin, paper-like narcotic substance that he had allegedly concealed on his body.
