WHO Offers Dietary Tips to Combat Anemia and Boost Health
The WHO shares essential dietary advice to prevent anemia, highlighting the importance of iron, vitamins, and nutrient-rich foods.

New Delhi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Anemia can often lead to feelings of fatigue, weakness, and dizziness. This condition arises when the body lacks sufficient blood, hindering oxygen flow to various organs. Consequently, daily tasks may become challenging. However, with the right diet and essential nutrients, it is possible to prevent certain types of anemia.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently shared important tips for preventing anemia through a post on social media platform X. According to the organization, it is crucial to incorporate foods rich in iron, folate, vitamin A, and vitamin B12 into one’s diet.
Iron is vital for the production of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen in the blood. To boost iron intake, include lentils, kidney beans, chickpeas, and leafy green vegetables in your meals. For those who consume meat, lean red meat and fish are excellent sources of iron. Pairing iron-rich foods with vitamin C can enhance absorption, making it beneficial to eat foods like oranges, lemons, guavas, and amla.
Vitamin C aids the body in absorbing iron from food. For instance, adding lemon juice to lentils or green vegetables is an easy way to increase vitamin C intake. Dark leafy greens such as spinach, fenugreek, and mustard greens are packed with nutrients and folate, which is essential for red blood cell production. Additionally, orange and yellow vegetables like carrots, pumpkins, and sweet potatoes provide a good source of vitamin A.
Both vitamin B12 and folate are necessary for the proper formation of red blood cells. Fish, poultry, and certain other animal-based foods are rich in vitamin B12, while lentils, beans, and leafy greens are excellent sources of folate.
If you frequently experience fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath, or weakness, do not dismiss these symptoms as mere stress. It is crucial to consult a doctor for a hemoglobin test and other necessary evaluations. Keep in mind that anemia can result from various factors, including blood loss, nutrient deficiencies, or other health issues. Identifying the underlying cause is essential for effective treatment.
