BJP Spokesperson Questions Fatwa Against Soha Ali Khan, Advocates for Religious Harmony
BJP spokesperson Yasir Jilani defends Soha Ali Khan against a fatwa and emphasizes the importance of religious harmony in India.

New Delhi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : BJP spokesperson Yasir Jilani has raised concerns regarding a fatwa issued against actress Soha Ali Khan. He criticized the cleric behind the fatwa, asserting that everyone has the right to visit religious sites. Jilani highlighted that visiting places of worship from different faiths for the sake of social harmony should be celebrated as a positive aspect of Indian culture.
He pointed out that some individuals in society act as self-appointed guardians of morality. Specifically, Jilani targeted certain so-called clerics who comment on people’s lives and backgrounds without fully understanding them. He noted that if someone visits a religious site to promote mutual respect and social cohesion, it exemplifies the spirit of brotherhood in Indian culture. He also mentioned actress Sara Ali Khan, who visited a shrine, referencing her previous film shoot in Kedarnath.
Jilani expressed that issuing such fatwas raises questions about the behavior of those who proclaim them. He advised clerics to focus on their conduct and the societal issues at hand. He suggested that if they wield such influence, they should also issue fatwas against serious crimes like theft and assault, accusing some clerics of using fatwas for political gain.
Addressing the upcoming Congress rally in Delhi on November 1, Jilani questioned the potential impact on traffic and commerce during the festival season. He noted that the rally coincides with the busy shopping periods of Dhanteras and Diwali, which could complicate movement in the area filled with wholesale markets and narrow lanes.
He raised doubts about Congress’s claim that over a million people would attend the rally, questioning how such a large crowd would be managed. Jilani warned that the Delhi police might need to implement traffic changes, erect barricades, or close roads, which could inconvenience the public and local businesses. He claimed that Delhi’s traders have expressed concerns about the rally, while Congress remains resolute in its plans.
Jilani also criticized Rahul Gandhi, stating that political change should come from the people’s votes. He accused Congress of seeking political advantage from the rally but warned that it might backfire if it leads to disorder. He concluded that if the rally disrupts daily life, the public may reject Congress once again.
