Web Series on Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi Banned Amid Threats to Leaders

Chandigarh, April 25: Tensions have escalated following the Indian government’s ban on the web series “Lawrence of Punjab,” which is based on the life of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. In response to this decision, threats have been issued by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang against several prominent leaders and Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav. These threats were communicated via social media.

The gang has targeted Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Congress MP from Gurudaspur Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, DGP Gaurav Yadav, and the father of the late singer Sidhu Moosewala, Balkar Singh.

According to reports, the threats were made through social media channels. Following these developments, security agencies have heightened their alert status and initiated an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has confirmed receiving threatening messages and calls.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting sent a letter to the OTT platform G5 regarding the “Lawrence of Punjab” case on Friday. Amarinder Singh Raja Warring shared this letter on his social media platform. The letter instructs the OTT platform not to release the web series. It also references the OTT guidelines issued on October 27, 2025, stating that allowing such series to be released could increase crime in society, making the decision to ban it a prudent one.

In its letter, the ministry emphasized the need for discretion before releasing web series based on gangsters and criminals. It further noted that such content has the potential to mislead youth, leading them astray.

Additionally, the Punjab Police have indicated that permitting the release of such web series could disrupt social order. Glorifying criminals is inappropriate for any society.
